UNESCO Youth Meeting 2017

European UNESCO Youth meeting; 12-13 October 2017; Ljubljana

Main information

The 2017 edition of our regional UNESCO Youth meeting is an ambitious one – aiming at forming the European UNESCO Youth Recommendations, as well as exchanging best practices of all present delegates, to gain or shape new ideas for connecting Youth with UNESCO and its Member States.

Since the meeting will only take place during the two working days, intensity can be expected. However, to ease it down, preparation is key.

This is why a facilitated preparation will be moderated via the Facebook group European UNESCO Youth 2017. We therefore ask you to join the group first – our team is waiting for you to virtually meet and work with you there already :)

  1. Venue of the meeting:

Ljubljana is the political and cultural heart of Slovenia, its business, exhibition and congressional centre. But most of all, it’s a city built on a human scale; with a friendly vibe and a green soul. P.S. – it’s pronounced Lyoob-lyah-nah. We know it’s a tongue twister, but don’t worry, we won’t judge you.

1st day: 12 OctoberLjubljana City Hall (Mestni trg 1, Ljubljana)

2nd day:13 October: Ministry of Education, Science and Sport (Masarykova cesta 16, 1000 Ljubljana)

  1. Accomodation:

Once a prison, today one of the most intriguing hostels in the world. A place that used to divide and categorize people according to different opinions and believes, has grown into a true social center and a melting pot of ideas.

It’s positioned in Metelkova City – the alternative city within our capital city, where everyone can find his place to relax, meet-up and have fun. Everyone is welcome – but urban legend says the police never steps on this territory.

  1. How to get there:

Ljubljana’s International Airport (Jože Plečnik) is a 25-minute drive from the city center, and the main Bus / Railway Station where the shuttle gets you off, is a 5 minutes walk from the Celica hostel.

In fact, nestled beneath a castle and with dragons roosting in its alleys, you will find that Ljubljana still has a cozy village feel to it. Forget about big metros and complicated public transportation, a healthy walk will get you everywhere in just a few minutes.

We advise you to take the official shuttle bus from Ljubljana Airport to the city center – to the Main Bus station. That way, we’ll be able to reimburse you this trip – but don’t forget to save your receipt!

Once at the main Bus station, Hostel Celica is only 5 minutes away (see map above). You may also hop on our environmentally friendly city busses nr. 2, 9, 12 or 27 at Kolodvor and step down at the next station Friškovec. You’ll be in front of Metelkova city, where hostel Celica reigns.
